Wet and dry debris is lifted out along the length of each gutter, with extra attention at the outlets where downpipes join, because that is where blockages form. Gutter guards or mesh fitted in the past are lifted, cleaned and put back.
Water is then run through each downpipe, and blockages at bends or at the base are cleared where they can be reached. Downpipes that run into a sealed drain may need rodding from a gully or access point.

Do I need to be in when the gutters are cleaned?
Not usually, as long as the back of the building can be reached. If downpipes drain into a gully inside a locked yard, let us know how to get in.
Do gutter guards stop gutters blocking?
They keep out leaves and larger debris. Moss, grit and fine silt still get through, and the guards collect leaves on top, so guttering with guards still needs clearing.
My gutter still overflows after cleaning. What is wrong?
If a clear gutter overflows, the cause may be a fall in the wrong direction, a sagging section or a gutter too small for the roof.
Can a school or block of flats have its gutters cleared each year?
Yes. Commercial buildings, schools and blocks of flats are often cleared on a yearly schedule, with the dates agreed with the site manager.
