Each job on the list is judged for time, materials and the wall or frame it fixes into. Shelves and brackets go into plugs suited to brick, block, plasterboard or lath and plaster, and tall furniture is secured with anti-tip fixings.
The jobs are worked through in the order that suits the visit. A resealed bath, for example, can cure while doors are eased in another room.
What the work covers
Shelves, curtain poles, blinds, mirrors and TV brackets fixed with plugs suited to the wall.
Sticking doors planed, hinges adjusted and handles, latches and door stops fitted.
Old silicone cut out and replaced around baths, showers and worktops, and tired tiles regrouted.
Furniture built and, where it is tall or heavy, fixed to the wall.
Cracks, dents and old fixing holes filled and sanded ready for paint.
Fence panels replaced, gates rehung and trellis, shed doors and hasps repaired.
Questions people ask
How much does a handyman visit cost?
It depends on the number of jobs, how long each takes, whether the materials are already bought, and parking and stairs at the address. A full list with photos gives the most accurate price.
Can a handyman fit an outside light or socket?
No. In Wales, adding a light or socket outdoors is notifiable electrical work under Part P, so it needs a registered electrician or building control sign-off.
Can you disconnect my gas cooker so I can move it?
Disconnecting and reconnecting a gas cooker is gas work. By law it has to be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer, so it is outside the handyman service.
Should I buy the shelves and fixings before the visit?
Say in the form whether you already have them. If not, the product name or a link shows the size and weight involved, which decides the fixings the wall needs.
Can the list come from a tenancy check-out report?
Yes. Send the lines from the report that need work, who holds the keys and whether the property is empty, so the jobs can be grouped into one visit.
